This site is dedicated to
Screaming Dead Scooter Club.
which was established in 1986 & all the people
who were involved with the club.
Brief condensed history...
The club was
formed in 1986 by myself (Taff), Max (msp) Karen (msp), Dave Marshall & John
Townsend.
The club was formed after
the split of The East Lancs Scooter Club in Blackburn in 1985. A few of us
in Darwen decided there was still plenty of interest & scooters to form
another club. Max phoned me after I had put an add in the local paper (see
pics). The five of us met at Max & Karens house and decided originally to
hold meetings at the Anchor Hotel on the A666 Darwen. After about three
weeks & accumulating another 7 members (Tony, Joe & Myra,Greg & Anita, Mick
W. & Mick S.) we were asked to leave as the landlord wasn't too impressed
with our behaviour!
We then found the Albion
Hotel (aka Paradis) the landlady was called May, whom was only to happy to
receive our beer tokens & join in the antics (ask one of the lads at one of
our do's who got a BJ when he flashed to her). The club started visiting a
lot of other local clubs weekly, Bolton Spartans, Wreckless Souls, Preston
Wildcats, Rossendale Aliens, Rochdale Mashers too name but a few.
I designed the club back
patch which featured Darwen (Jubilee) Tower with the Reaper stood within its
turrets, I then got local tattooist Lee to redraw my idea, Max then had the
full back patches made as well as T shirts, arm patches pin badges etc.
which he is still doing today!
Within a couple of months
the club had grown to around 30 members, all attending rallies up & down the
country as well as Europe. The club grew very quickly over the next year
forging strong bonds with Bolton Spartans, Aliens, Mashers as well as clubs
from Scotland like the Coyotes, Blues etc. We started putting pre &
end of season do's on in the Albion which as some of you old bastards will
remember were always packed to the rafters, sometimes we even took over the
cellar of the pub. We soon out grew the Albion & started holding do's in
places like the local night clubs, leisure centre & the biggest venue being
Tony's Ballroom in Blackburn.
Club membership had now
grown to around 60, that's not counting associate members, we were still
forging strong bonds with other clubs like The Alleycats (Midlands), Jokers
(London).
Some members actually
moved to Darwen from all round the country like Paul Hollyhead (RIP) ex-Midlander,
Bernie Hesse ex-Londoner, Ronnie from Crewe too name but a few.
The club was soon
enjoying notoriety on the runs especially with some of the clubs characters
like Lui of the Dambuster pub game (sure one or two of you challenged him &
won ha,ha). These were good times but as everyone knows all good things come
to an end.
The club started
disbanding in or around 1994 when obviously relationships within the club
started to dissolve.
But I
still have & will always have extremely fond memories of those mad, mad days
with
